Stockpile of Artist Canvas

You never know what you'll find while out Junking with Jim. I was so excited to find brand new artist canvas at my local Humane Society thrift store. Paid less than 25% of retail value. I better get busy painting.

Most (but not all) were part of the thrift store find.

Budding Artist Finds A Truck Load of Quality Framed and Stretched Canvases

Went to town today to purchase canvas from my local art supply store but first a few hours of junking were in order. I hit the jackpot when a truck load of ready to paint canvases were spotted against the wall in one of my regular haunts. I plan to return tomorrow for more. Saving hundreds of dollars is a great thing. You just never know what you'll find while out junking.

Other finds from the days haul will be added soon.

Pfaltzgraff Art Pottery Vase

Here's another find from my junking a few days ago. It was a successful day, and I still have another goody or two to blog about. I paid $3.00 for this quality piece of collectible Pfaltzgraff art pottery. These pieces are not all that easy to come by these days. Pfaltzgraff was established in York, PA and has been around since the early 1800's. They're known for making a significant variety of stoneware crocks during their early days. This vase was manufactured around the 1930's during the arts and crafts period. Just about everyone knows Pfaltzgraff, and we might all recognize it from our parents or grandmothers kitchens. It was such a popular and durable dinnerware the past several decades. The dinnerware pieces of more recent years can be found in abundance for very reasonable prices. An average retail value on art pottery pieces such as this one can range anywhere from $30-50.00 with larger pieces going for far more.

Art Glass Tree

Shortly after the Christmas holiday season is still a pretty good time to find holiday related decor. This little find will go perfectly well in my art glass tree collection. I suppose it could be displayed year-round but I prefer to rotate them out for other collections since there's no shortage in this household. It measures 8" tall and was picked up at a thrift store the other day for $3.99. It can be fairly difficult to identify the maker on something like this without any markings or labels still attached. A large number of manufacturer's have made this type item for some time now, and most of which are all imported these days. I particularly like this one for the gold mica panel cased beneath a layer of crystal (crystal being referred to as a color btw). Time to pack it away with all the others until late November.

Newest addition.

Collection of art glass trees purchased mostly from thrift stores over the last couple of years.
This one is a new addition for 2011. It's a gorgeous piece of art glass made by Simon Pearce of Vermont. Purchased from Gump's SF.
